These iron paddle steamer SALAMANDER und NIXE have been built by Robinson & Russel in London. Crews of these vessels of the Prussian Navy were not happy about these ships and stay most of the time in the harbour. The Prussian Navy needed a training frigate. The Royal Navy needed small steam driven vessels for the war at Krim. The Prussian Navy and the Royal Navy made an exchange trade. The Prussians got a 38 gun frigate from the Royal Navy and the other way the Royal Navy take over both paddle steamer. The paddle steamer were renanamed to RECRUIT and WESER and sent to the Black Sea. 1869 and 1873 they where sold to private owners. Main particulars are a little bit unclear due to different length of feet. For this plan main particulars of Gr?ner have been taken into account.
